About

Carl Koch is a British-South African artist currently based in Oxfordshire.  He established his practice in 2017 with an emphasis on exploring the interplay between colour and texture, taking inspiration from nature.

The artworks themselves are made from thousands of individually rolled, cut, dipped and assembled tiles. Many single parts coming together to tell a story, echoing the rhythm of nature like a living structure made from thousands of cells. The elaborate method of their construction gives meaning and value to the finished piece. Each tile is handled with care during the several stages of the making process.

Combining learned design skills with complex traditional techniques results in meticulously handmade artworks that are both technically accomplished and labour intensive - two driving factors that harmonise to create pieces that are as intricately detailed as they are amorphous and timeless.
